It’s important to fall in love with a piece,

for the artist, or for the collector. Each painting then becomes purposeful.

Value-laden, soulful art, as it turns out, is one of life’s accessible pleasures. Our natural Canadian landscapes are some of the most compelling spaces on Earth.

My art is based on places that I have traversed. I hope I capture moments of splendor, grace and nuance from the Canadian Shield, the Great Lakes and small town Ontario. These are my beloved subjects. Many of my pieces depict water, earth’s elemental construct, and a medium of joy for me, as a life-long, open water swimmer.

I was born knowing how to draw. I have painted, submitted and sold my watercolours for most of my adult life. I credit the late Chuck Witter, of the Blue Mountain School of Landscape Painting, as my painting mentor.

My work is also informed by my business career in marketing and communications. An early ability to ‘illustrate’ complex technical and process constructs, lead to an international portfolio of clients and work at my founded enterprise, The Cane Group Inc. Here, I honed my composition, colour and style aesthetic.

I continue to evolve as a life-long artist through ongoing study, community and plein air group painting. My work is held in private, corporate and NFP collections. I live in Stratford, Ontario with my spouse, Robert C. Blackwell.

THANK YOU for reading about me. I hope you enjoy my art - Brenda.
